The Corporate Responsibility Group (CRG) was founded in 1987 by a small group of community affairs professionals working for major companies, including Marks & Spencer, Shell, Whitbread, and Legal & General. Its purpose was to provide a peer network through which members could support each other in the new and growing field of corporate community investment, and to develop joint programmes to benefit society.

Over the years CRG has grown from this small group of professionals. We now have over 100 member companies connecting some 300 individuals, each committed to adopting a social, ethical and environmentally responsible approach to business.

During the past 20 years, our role has evolved as we've listened to our members and responded to their changing needs. Recently, we partnered with Ashridge Business School in a survey about the changing nature and development needs of the corporate responsibility (CR) profession.  We also create methods of access for members to connect with the media, government agencies and other stakeholder organisations, such as the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on CSR, CSR Europe, and the London Benchmarking Group.

CRG is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and run cost-effectively by a volunteer Board of experienced members. A small contracted secretariat team and a consultant programme adviser put the Board's plans into effect.

While much has changed over the years, the ethos and spirit of the group has remained.  Led by CR professionals, our commitment to the mutual support of members is as strong as ever. CRG is its members.
